Bob Kalinowski is an award-winning reporter, columnist and video editor for The Citizens’ Voice newspaper in Wilkes-Barre who now is parlaying that experience as a licensed realtor in the state of Pennsylvania.
A life resident of Nanticoke, Bob has worked at the newspaper since May 2003 following graduation from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre.
He recently joined Wychock Real Estate LLC in Mountain Top, PA, aggressively representing property buyers and sellers all over Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Early in his career, Bob sought to instead pursue a dream of serving in the U.S. military and was accepted into the Navy’s Officer Candidate School, the elite program for future military leaders. However, he was offered an Honorable Discharge due to an injury.
He has remained at The Citizens’ Voice ever since, taking on the proud role of being the paper’s military reporter. For years, he primarily covered the police and court beats, and now is the paper’s enterprise reporter.
Bob has won more than 30 statewide journalism awards, which included investigative pieces into sales of alcohol to minors, a credit union scandal involving cops and the murder of a correctional officer in federal prison.
Career highlights include covering both Hugo Selenski homicide trials, reporting on the flood of 2011, and assisting in the Luzerne County public corruption scandal.
His work has taken him to The White House on assignment and he was invited to join the White House Press Pool during President Donald J. Trump’s visit to Wilkes-Barre Township in 2018.
Bob’s work often gets national exposure when it is redistributed by The Associated Press.
During the 2020 election, Bob was asked by the White House Correspondents Association to be the national pool reporter for a campaign appearance by Vice President Mike Pence in Exeter, PA. After the event, he appeared live on "Special Report with Bret Baier" on Fox News to analyze the election, immediately following a segment with Pence.
In early 2021, Bob took part in the "Crimes Stories with Nancy Grace" podcast about the bludgeoning murder of a young mother in Plymouth, PA. The episode appeared on Grace's "Fox Nation" television show.
Bob gained national recognition in November 2015 after interviewing 21 local World War II veterans and producing a documentary as part of a project to mark the 70th anniversary of the war’s end. Parts of his documentary appeared on ABC’s World News Tonight on Veterans Day 2015.
In 2018, Bob supervised a 12-part series on the local opioid epidemic, helping to put faces to the statistics provided by the coroner's office following a record year of fatal drug overdoses.
Bob bartends at the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino on the side. (He used to but was laid off because of COVID-19 pandemic).
Outside of work, he enjoys following politics, historical preservation and fitness. He also has intense pride in being an American and loves dressing in red, white and blue as often as he can.
